HERBARIUM SACRUM
La relación entre el hombre y su entorno me convoca en este trabajo. Recorriendo paisajes rurales, fui encontrando a lo largo del camino construcciones antiguas, iglesias y monasterios que con sus campanarios señalan lugares de encuentro a los peregrinos de ayer y de hoy. Estos lugares, testigos mudos de épocas pasadas, conservan la sabiduría de tantas vidas, y nos hablan del vínculo entre el hombre de entonces y los materiales del lugar, como la piedra, con la cual realizaban sus construcciones. Destaco asimismo la importancia que representó la Iglesia en la transmisión de saberes a lo largo de la historia. Hago especial mención al “hortus conclusus” acercando el Jardín del Edén al jardín medieval, donde cultivaban plantas medicinales, aromáticas y vegetales, especies necesarias para la vida cotidiana.
El trabajo se centra en la Iglesia Notre Dame de l´Assomption, que se encuentra en el pueblo de Marnay-sur-Seine, ubicado en el noreste de Francia. La Iglesia de estilo románico, fue edificada en el siglo XII por los monjes de la Abadía de Saint Denis.
Para ello, realice un Herbario de las especies botánicas del lugar. En primer lugar, realicé un registro fotográfico. Luego tome muestras de arcilla de las fachadas exteriores de la iglesia. Realicé las matrices y finalmente las estampas. La obra está compuesta por grabados, fotografías, dibujos y retablos en madera. Es por último, ese llamado “espíritu del lugar”, que encontramos en estas construcciones y su entorno, en íntima correlación con el paisaje que las rodea, que merece ser preservado, para poder contemplar la obra de arte en toda su dimensión, comprendiendo que el paso del tiempo, la huella de la memoria, forma parte del futuro.

HERBARIUM SACRUM
The relationship between man and his environment calls me to this work. Traveling through rural landscapes, I encountered along the way ancient constructions, churches and monasteries whose bell towers mark meeting places for the pilgrims of yesterday and today. These places, silent witnesses of past times, preserve the wisdom of so many lives and speak to us of the bond between the people of that time and the materials of the place, such as stone, with which they built their constructions. I also highlight the importance that the Church represented in the transmission of knowledge throughout history. I make special mention of the “hortus conclusus,” bringing the Garden of Eden closer to the medieval garden, where they cultivated medicinal plants, aromatic herbs, and vegetables—species necessary for everyday life.
The work centers on the Church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption, located in the town of Marnay-sur-Seine in northeastern France. The Romanesque-style church was built in the 12th century by the monks of the Abbey of Saint Denis.
For this purpose, I created a Herbarium of the botanical species of the place. First, I made a photographic record. Then I took clay samples from the exterior façades of the church. I made the matrices and finally the prints. The work is composed of engravings, photographs, drawings, and wooden altarpieces. Finally, it is that so-called “spirit of the place,” which we find in these constructions and their surroundings, in intimate correlation with the landscape that surrounds them, that deserves to be preserved, so that the work of art can be contemplated in its full dimension, understanding that the passage of time, the trace of memory, is part of the future.
